The Challenge
Travelnest, a Bank portfolio company, was preparing to secure top-up investment funding. Ahead of the funding round, the Travelnest Board and Bank investment team asked Engine to conduct an independent strategic review of the business, assessing the strength of the growth plan, identifying risks and opportunities, and providing clear recommendations to inform both the investment decision and post-investment priorities.
How We Helped
Engine delivered an 8-week strategic review — the Growth Blueprint — combining our Engine Diagnostic platform with hands-on consultant-led analysis. The Scale Up Diagnostic Tool was used to conduct a structured maturity assessment across eight key business dimensions, providing a data-driven baseline for Travelnest's leadership, product-market fit, operating model, go-to-market capability, financial discipline, and delivery readiness. This was complemented by a deep-dive strategic analysis led by the Engine team, including interviews with the leadership team, an examination of the business plan and financial model, a market and competitive assessment, and the identification of the critical capabilities required to scale. The review culminated in a Board presentation that set out a clear picture of the company's strengths, the gaps that needed to be addressed, and a prioritised set of recommendations for post-investment action.
The Outcome
Travelnest successfully secured its funding round, ultimately raising more than originally planned — a result that the Board attributed in part to the clarity and confidence that Engine's review brought to the investment case. The strategic recommendations from the Growth Blueprint were adopted by the Board and taken forward into a subsequent phase of strategy development work, again supported by Engine. The engagement demonstrated the power of combining Engine's diagnostic platform with experienced strategy consulting — providing both the structured evidence base and the practical recommendations that investors and boards need to make decisions with confidence.
